San Diego Boat & Jet Ski Accident Lawyer

With the beautiful year round weather we all enjoy in San Diego, few outdoor activities are as inviting as a boat ride with friends and family on sparkling open waters. Unfortunately, what starts out as a fun and relaxing day, may sometimes end with injuries or even fatalities incurred through the recklessness or carelessness of other boaters.

In 2015, according to the California Division of Boating & Waterways, there were 232 reported boating and jet ski injury accidents, and unfortunately 49 fatalities resulting from boating other watercraft accidents. Property damage caused by people operating boats negligently, reached $4m dollars in 2015 alone.

These statistics are not only sobering, they are preventable. The #1 cause of boating accidents is operator inattention. In short, people aren’t paying attention and you or a loved one may suffer the consequences.

Don’t suffer in vain. You have a legal right to compensation for your injuries. If you were recently injured in a boat or jet ski accident, you need skilled San Diego boat accident lawyers to help you with your case.

Quick facts about California Boat Laws

In California, the law requires boat operators to report accidents. They are required to provide general information such as name, address and boat registration numbers to the other parties, as well as provide assistance to any injured person.

Boat operators have to be at least 16 years old, with the craft properly registered and insured, and lifejackets provided for all aboard. Of course it is illegal for boat operators to drive their vessel while drinking.

Negligence occurs when these and/or other California State boating laws are violated. In situations like these, the operator of the boat is legally liable for the personal injuries sustained to anyone in or around the boat due to their behavior.
Additionally, California laws cover damage to physical or real property. This means, if someone operates a boat negligently and damages or destroys your personal property, you may be entitled to damages for that property.

Getting compensated after a boat injury accident

Our firm will help you to determine who was responsible for the accident that caused your injuries, and moreover what legal action should be taken against the responsible party.

If you were physically injured aboard the vessel of a friend or family member, don’t feel badly pursuing a claim. The boater’s insurance company will pay for your losses and damages, not your friend personally.

Injuries generally happen in a variety of ways such as, colliding with another boat or a barrier, a fire or an explosion, falling overboard and in worse case scenarios, drowning.

If you’ve been injured in a boat accident, do not talk to the insurance company and risk falling victim to common insurance tactics . Instead, talk to one of our San Diego boating accident lawyers to ensure you are fairly and fully compensated for your injuries. The call and Case Consultation are free and there is never an obligation.
